Termite Repairs (and More) Under Way

You may remember that before Thanksgiving (2013), we discovered we had termites. And we are still in shock over it. We had the house treated as soon as we discovered the damage. The waiting period is up and hubby isn't traveling now, so the repairs got under way yesterday afternoon. Thankfully it was only three small sections in the living room so the repairs should be finished tomorrow. Probably about 8 hours total so that isn't as bad as I was expecting. Hubby and our older son worked on it so that helped make it go faster I guess. I'll paint once the drywall trails are filled in completely and the new wood is in place AND after I clean. The house is a mess right now and I cleaned yesterday morning. Not the smartest move on my part.

Anyway, live and learn. You can get termite protection for low monthly payments so that will be ongoing no matter where we live now. Even if you're a clean freak, it will happen to you if you do not have the protection. It's amazing that we lived here 18 years before it happened to us.  Below are some pictures of the work in progress.

The area to the left of the fireplace had very little damage. Just a few trails in the drywall and the baseboard was all that needed to be repaired there. It's ready to paint. The window to the right of the fireplace and the wall around that window was the heavily damaged area. The door beside the TV (not seen in this photo) had some minor damage. The mess actually looks better this morning. It was all over the living room last night. We've had the cat for 3 weeks now and she doesn't understand why her house is a mess.

Office door beside the TV. Just one piece of trim had damage and there were a few trails in the drywall.

Heavily damaged area. All of the window trim had to be removed and most of the wall had to be repaired. This was spackled before our son left last night. Still need to sand and maybe re-cover with spackling once more to finish.

The broiler in the oven decided to go out yesterday too so one of those is on order along with the bake unit. When one goes out, expect the other one to go out shortly so we're prepared for that. Been there done that too. Just the little things that spice up life a bit.  Ü

Oh! And we will order the replacement cover for our porch swing today. The winter has been brutal on it. High winds ripped it and heavy snow finished the job. It completely collapsed under 6 inches of heavy wet snow. I need that fixed before summer so we can keep the sun out of our eyes during those relaxing summer evenings. Another live and learn. Take the cover off when those relaxing summer evenings are over.

Have a nice day!
